Arabica or Robusto?

Image Detail   Arabica beans are grown in higher altitude tropical climates and require more care than the lower altitude Robusto beans. There is an increasingly large difference between the two types of beans in terms of flavor and caffeine content. If you care about getting caffeine, go for the Robusto. But, you will sacrifice flavor in return. Gas stations, Dunkin Donuts, and other fast food places will use the Robusto beans to keep the cost of their coffee down. Although, I have noticed that I can get a better coffee from a local coffee shop for cheaper than Dunkin Donuts lately. People who drink a lot of Robusto have a difficult time drinking Arabica because there is more flavor in the bean. These beans can be found at McDonald's, Starbucks, and most major coffeehouses. Arabica does have a lower caffeine content than Robusto. Arabica coffee is meant to be enjoyed, not gulped.
Some of my friends and I have recently learned that we can not drink Robusto coffee due to it's higher caffeine content. If you want to make sure that you are getting Arabica coffee, check and make sure that your favorite place is serving a 100% Columbian blend, as this is the only coffee that Columbia produces. If it is from Vietnam, it is Robusto coffee as they have increased their production to meet global demands. Watch what you drink!

Hard to tell the difference when they are both roasted!

  1. Personally prefer the Arabrica for its stronger flavor, but what gets me after a few cups is the higher acid content. I always thought it had the higher caffine level because of the stronger flavor. Need to fill my coffee cup again. Nick
